Vintage French Espadrille Fabric

This collection of early espadrille fabric was found in the Pays Basque region of France at the Anglet Brocante.  Espadrilles are still made by hand in this area of France. Colorful strips of woven fabric are attached to a rope base to create a shoe worn for the past 4,000 years!

Each cotton strip of fabric is a different length - anywhere from 12" to a yard.
